WinterFest tomorrow at the Ridge

WinterFest tomorrow at the Ridge

By on March 9, 2012 in Ski & Snowshoe

Woo-hoo… it’s here! WinterFest on Dakota Ridge, beginning at 10am March 10, 2012. The snow has been wonderful this season, with a base of 195 cm and it is snowing lightly as of noon Friday (today).

Schedule: available on Alpha web site

Highlights include product demos and tryouts, 5 & 10km ski races, introductions to cross-country ski & skate, kids ski race and a snowshoe mini-tour.

Here’s some tips for getting the most out of the day at WinterFest:

  1. BOOK YOUR WINTERFEST PASS (and shuttle seat if applicable). $21 for WinterFest pass AND return shuttle, slightly less for kids to 16.  You will also need your Dakota Ridge pass ($5) and can get that from the SCRD, & Alpha in Wilson Creek (604.885.8838). Book & pay ahead to reserve your space and then meet at the SCRD parking lot up field road 10 mins before bus is scheduled to depart.
  2. Dress in layers – you may have to wait to try gear and will need to stay warm.
  3. Bring a small backpack that contains water, a protein snack and something sweet (baking or fruit or juice) and still leaves room for your outer layer to fit inside.
  4. You must bring chains if you are driving up on your own; there will be signs where the chain-up is, or check the SCRD Dakota Ridge page on FB. REMEMBER: you are responsible for all towing costs (significant, $400+) and for the terrible karma if you manage to jam up the access on this very special day on the Ridge. Either bring chains and know how to use them, or book a spot on Alpha Adventures’ Big Yellow Monster shuttle.
  5. Be sure to snap some photos and share them on Alpha Adventures & SCRD & SunshineCoastBigpacific Facebook pages!
