2nd Annual Pender Harbour Garlic Festival Aug. 20 & 21
After a highly successful inaugural festival last August, the Pender Habour Lions Club is back this year but at double the vendors and musicians!
It’s always exciting getting a new event off the ground and Bigpacific.com was proud to be a vendor last year with our Garlic Buddies. We had a firsthand experience of being a part of something brand new, with all its challenges and successes. It’s fair to say everyone was surprised at the turnout, how long people stayed around, how good the music was, and all the yummy garlic and garlic-inspired foods and crafts available.
Neale and Niki Smith, main organizers, were thrilled with the interest and vowed to make it an annual event and to grow it into a major BC destination festival for foodies.
“Last year we were really happy with the turnout and the confirmation that there was enough interest in adding another festival devoted to Garlic in B.C.,” said co-organizer Neale Smith. “So this year we are pulling out all the stops to get this on everyone’s calendars as an annual must-attend event.”
The 2011 festival runs for two days in the spacious Pender Harbour Lions Club Park, just a 40 minute ferry from Horseshoe Bay in Vancouver and a scenic 35 minute drive up to Pender. This year’s festival offers a huge lineup of musical talent with Juno winners Valdy, Joel Fafard and Penny Lang. Cat in the Middle, The Schrugs, Gaetan & The French Connection, and Dr. Fun & The Painkillers are just a few of the other performers.
Garlic fans can expect a wide range of organic garlic grown on the Sunshine Coast, specialty ingredients and condiments, novelties and keepsakes. Other vendors confirmed are jewellers & silversmiths, body products, photography, organic apple cider producers, herbal products, wearable art, and even a psychic.
This is a family-friendly festival, so be sure to bring the kids for horseback rides, a bouncy castle, face-painting, haywagon rides and more.
The event is a fundraiser for the Pender Harbour Lions Club. Funds are used to help community organizations, local people in need, student bursaries and to maintain the beautiful Lions Club Park facilities.
