Sechelt, June 2011 – You’ll never guess what’s happening in the east end of the Trail Bay Mall. Kids from 2-15 – pardon me, artists – and their parents, have discovered 4 Cats Art Studio and entered into another world.
From what I would call chaos in my home, young artists are learning through a structured set of workshops and classes, how to create art inspired by famous artists like Andy Warhol, Vincent Van Gogh, Gustav Klimt. Though the studio is extremely well organized, it’s also designed to be USED, in ways most homes are not: clay, paint, stop motion animation, drawing, fabric/textiles are in use in the dexterous hands of artists unfettered with Mom or Dad’s rules at home. It’s not wild and crazy, but it is immersive, and the kids thrive with it.
There are structured classes (drop in any time), single day 90 minute workshops, and camps running week to week with 3 hour sessions based around particular artists or disciplines.
And don’t forget the parties! Besides themed parties for the artists & their friends – dragon, fairy, starforce, van gogh, georgia and clay, their are also adult and corporate parties perfect for a girls’ night out or an after-work social that builds morale and helps people interact in completely novel ways via a ‘paint splatter party’. This one is wildly popular with kids, but it’s a secret that more and more adults are booking them and exploring their creative & social sides in a closed environment. Parties are booked for a minimum of 10 to a maximum of 12 participants, and each guest works on their own 11×14 stretched canvas, plus a 6 ft x 3ft canvas for the host.
