Holy Crap! It’s Creekers on the Dragons’ Den!

*HAPI FOODS – HOLY CRAP CEREAL IS ON CBC’S DRAGON’S DEN WEDNESDAY NIGHT NOV 17*
Come to the special screening at Magellan’s Restaurant in Sechelt (next to the Lighthouse Pub). Doors open 7pm!

The Sunshine Coast success story of Holy Crap Cereal just keeps getting better and better. Love the name or hate it, it’s memorable and seems to hit the right buttons – particularly on the Sunshine Coast where going against the tide is almost de rigeur. Founder Corin Mullins decided on the name after a customer blurted it out after a taste test.

The idea for the cereal came when Corin was working as a flight attendant and wanted something high energy and easy to make. The beauty of the cereal is that, in addition to being made mostly of Chia (or Salvia Hipanica for you smarty pantses out there), this product is wheat free, gluten free, lactose free, and with the Skinny B version, sugar free (great for us diabetics).

From a health standpoint the cereal certainly is a star: the Chia grain is 20% protein, 34% oil, and 25% dietary fibre. I know as a diabetic this is pretty much a perfect combination, since the fibre slows the absorption of the starches and sugars and the oil and protein present means I don’t have to add additional sources to my morning meal. The cereal is also excellent sprinkled on other breakfast and snack foods like yogurt, our morning favorite oatmeal, or cereals. Just make sure you finish your milk! Oh, and give it a few minutes to soak after stirring – that’s the magic step that can not be missed when using Holy Crap.

Just to get on the popular health bandwagon, I should mention Holy Crap has lots of Omega 3, 6 and 9 s… in fact this Hipanica L. is the all time natural champion of the Omegas.

I plan to try mixing mine the night before with some craisins and having it cold, since this heat wave means anything cooked is madness.

If you were at Granville Island recently, you may have noticed Don Cherry impersonator Clark Robertson visiting the Holy Crap booth – and if you missed it I’ve included the video here. According to this piece, Brian and Corin of Holy Crap – and Clark as Don Cherry – have made it through auditions for the popular Canadian show, The Dragon’s Den and will be appearing on the show this fall.

Check out what people say about Chia on the Holy Crap web site. Even Oprah’s indelible stamp of approval has been awarded to this unique cereal.

You can buy Holy Crap and Skinny B from the web site, and shipping is free with a 3 bag minimum (Canada only excl. Yukon, NWT and Nunavut – poor Nunavut where a cousin lives and raises his mixed caucasian/Inuit family and pays $12 for a gallon of milk). Discounts are available for retail and large orders.
